I guess this show is about how no one saves you. It's nothing new, you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped, but this show makes you look at that with different people in different ways. No one can help you other than yourself and sometimes you don't help yourself, and your story ends with you never changing. You die.
Bojack isn't a good person. He tries sometimes but he never gets it right, just when you thought it was going well he screws everything up, and the negatives outweigh the positives. You're never told that he gets better. Some characters are better for having known him and some are worse. Some are just different, not good or bad. We see the impact. I think that's nice.
